چکیده

This paper addresses methods of knowledge engineering for chemical and biochemical process modelling and control. The concept of Knowledge Based Modular (KBM) Networks is presented. KBM networks represent a method of expressing and combining different types of knowledge, usually available for modelling chemical and biochemical processes: mechanistic, heuristic and knowledge hidden in process data records. The Expectation Maximisation (EM) algorithm is employed to optimally combine the modules within the KBM network. The concepts are illustrated with an application to a baker’s yeast production process. The results show that it is possible to obtain more accurate process description when all available sources of knowledge are incorporated in the process model. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. Monthly runoff forecasting by means of artificial neural networks (ANNs)

Over the last decade or so, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools formodelling hydrological processes such as rainfall runoff processes. However, the employment of a single model doesnot seem to be an appropriate approach for modelling such a complex, nonlinear, and discontinuous process thatvaries in space and time. For this reason, this study aims at de...

Step change point estimation in the multivariate-attribute process variability using artificial neural networks and maximum likelihood estimation

In some statistical process control applications, the combination of both variable and attribute quality characteristics which are correlated represents the quality of the product or the process. In such processes, identification the time of manifesting the out-of-control states can help the quality engineers to eliminate the assignable causes through proper corrective actions. In this paper, f...

A Direct Power Feeding System for AC Railway Networks Using Modular Multilevel Converter

Abstract Traditional railway power supply systems impose substantial power quality problems (PQ) on the utility network, such as unbalance, harmonics and a large amount of reactive power. This paper proposes a topology based on three-phase to single-phase modular multilevel converters (MMC) to obviate these problems. The MMC based traction substations (TSS) are connected directly to the utili...

Multi-Step-Ahead Prediction of Stock Price Using a New Architecture of Neural Networks

Modelling and forecasting Stock market is a challenging task for economists and engineers since it has a dynamic structure and nonlinear characteristic. This nonlinearity affects the efficiency of the price characteristics. Using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is a proper way to model this nonlinearity and it has been used successfully in one-step-ahead and multi-step-ahead prediction of di...

شناسایی نقطه تغییر در بردار میانگین فرآیند نرمال دومتغیره با تغییرات مونوتونیک

When a control chart shows an out-of-control condition, a search begins to identify and eliminate the root cause(s) of the process disturbance. The time when the disturbance has manifested itself to the process is referred to as change point. Identification of the change point is considered as an essential step in analyzing and eliminating the disturbance source(s) effectively. When a process...
